Top 5 Beginner Quadcopters

Quadcopters are becoming more and more popular, especially with the video of Amazon Prime Air being released a few months ago. Here are some quadcopters for beginners to get started in this amazing hobby:

5. Syma X1 4 Channel Quadcopter – $35

The Syma was the first quadrotor that I got when I started this hobby. It is very beginner friendly, and is very forgiving. It does take some getting used to with correctly calibrating it, but that is very easy to do. Once you get the hang of it, you won’t want to put it down. The battery life is not the best on it, but they offer battery upgrades that nearly double the capacity and flight time.

4. Sky Walker Quadcopter – $45

The Sky Walker Quadcopter is made for beginner indoor flying, it comes with a cage that completely encloses it. This almost completely removes any chance of damaging it.  It also allows you to fly it near pets and people (not that we condone that) without much fear of harming them with the blades.

3. Hubsan X4 With Camera – $67

Another very beginner friendly quadrotor that comes with a camera that allows for in flight recording. This is another very easy to control quadcopter. The battery life is marginally better than the Syma X1, but not by much. There is a much more expensive version, with a full blown FPV(First Person View) already set up. There is also a blade protector available for either that is a worthwhile pick up, it makes it much harder to drastically break the quad when in flight.

2. Estes 4606 Proto X Nano Quadcopter - $40

One of the best beginner quadcopters out there, definitely recommend it for anyone. It’s dimensions are under 2×2, making it possible to fly nearly anywhere, no matter how small of a room. It’s a very snappy quadcopter that allows for very good control. Do not recommend flying this outside at all, as any wind gust will send it sailing away. The only other problem that it has is that it comes with a lower quality controller, but several aftermarket controllers work great with it and actually make it more responsive.

1. DJI Phantom Aerial UAV Quadcopter – $485

May be a little pricey for some people, but its one of the nicest quadcopters in the price range that is still beginner friendly. It has tons of useful features that the other quadcopters don’t have, it has a return to home feature that allows the quad to return to where it was launched from if it ever loses contact with the transmitter. It’s very easy to set up and get the hang of, a good high end beginner quad that you will continue to use throughout your time in the hobby.
